Hey there! This is Jamie Shaw, founder of Shaw To Win.
If you're reading this, I'm glad your curiosity brought you here! I'm no web-designer so this may not look the best, haha! But let me tell you, what you're about to read might really open your eyes. Let's walk through this beautiful sport, step by step.

You see, I started karting at the age of 15, but was unable to afford a coach or mentor. Just like in many Indian households, this was not a career choice my family encouraged me to pursue. I worked at a local karting track to get a little bit of weekly practice, I used YouTube to learn how to race and got to winning!

But with no guidance and no funding, it was difficult to understand how to truly sustain as a race driver. Today I've spent just under a decade of my life in this sport, securing podiums in every championship that I've participated in, oh and learning the ins and outs the hard way.
I started Shaw To Win with the aim being to help anyone that came my way, to let knowledge flow like water, to ensure the next set of racers have access to all the right information and progress up the ranks!

Is it too late for me to become a race driver? Can I make it to F1? What are my options?
Just like in any field, the younger you start, the better you’d be in the future. With motorsport, just like with any other sport, athletes start really young, as young as the age of 5.
Shaw To Win's youngest student is 6 years old, and the elder ones are in their mid 40s!
We train students between the ages of 6 and 60 years old.

Age is a factor based on the category you wish to pursue. Formula car racing is the most expensive, and super competitive, with drivers starting really young with a huge amount of funding also unable to be as competitive. Finance is also a huge factor (discussed next).
But there are several categories of racing and several greats who’ve come out of the sport all whilst starting off at far later ages as well. Legend Ken Block took his first rally lesson when he was 37 years old. He later created a new category of racing which we today call “gymkhana”.
Formula 1 is simply A category of motorsport that you must’ve heard about since it’s the most marketed form of motorsport. There are several categories of motorsport (which are also far more affordable than formula cars), from karting to touring car racing where you’ll find people who started in their 20s or 30s too! And you’ll find drivers in their 40s racing as well!
At Shaw To Win, you’ll learn about all such categories and options available.

Am I eligible to compete in races?
There are several races you can compete in with no formal coaching or license requirement.
The purpose of our courses is to make you a far more refined driver. You want tomake your money’s worth when you do jump into any races and be Shaw To Win!

Is racing expensive? Can I earn and make a living out of being a race driver?
Motorsport can be seriously expensive. But with the right guidance, there are several ways to make it far more affordable!
Here’s something to know:
Most drivers are self funded. Sponsors are challenging to convince, especially if you're a new comer. Shaw To Win also trains its students to become better marketeers and find valuable sponsorships.

In motorsport, the athlete usually pays the team! If you as a race driver require the car, tech support, equipment, coaching etc, then you’d need to pay a team for its services. However, teams often win prize money when you win. Hence, the more competitive you become, the more likely the team is to offer you a better deal, and even free races! Finally when you become super competitive, you might land a salary or paid contract to race with a team. However this is a difficult feat to achieve.

The best part about motorsport is, it may be capital intensive, but it is not as time intensive. Practicing 2 to 8 hours a week is sufficient (based on your end goal). Top level championships are often just 5 to 10 rounds, spread over the year. This will allow you to study or work alongside your racing career. Hence, incase you're unable to earn out of the sport, you could still find the time to work alongside and run your racing career in a semi professional manner.
Shaw To Win’s racers have gone from beginners to racing formula cars and competing in international endurance races with budgets far smaller than one might find, all thanks to proper planning. With Shaw To Win’s global affiliations with teams and academies in various forms of motorsport, our racers receive financial benefits and part sponsorships for events they participate in.

-
Does Shaw To Win offer any financial scholarships?
Yes we do! All of our Level 1 graduates receive part sponsorships for future training programs. Additionally, ultra-skilled individuals also receive additional scholarship amounts whilst taking part in any races through the academy.

-
Does Shaw To Win organise any championship races?
Currently, Shaw To Win hosts mock races at various race tracks within the academy to teach our students race craft. Since there are a limited number of local karting events, Shaw To Win is working towards having a local championship created for racers.

-
What is the scope of racing in India?
Motorsport was previously an uncommon sport in India. But in recent years we’ve hosted FIA championships and had drivers from abroad fly down to compete in Indian championships instead of it being the other way around!
There are various championships and categories available in India that offer great learning. Indian motorsport is the most affordable in the world as well.

-
What is a racing license?
A racing license is a document the FMSCI (the governing body of motorsport in India) issues to you to showcase that you are fit to participate in a race.

There are various racing licenses available based on the level of competition and category that you are competing in, but most regional championships do not demand one.
After completing Shaw To Win’s training courses, we can assist you on the steps to acquire the same. We only recommend applying for one when you progress up the ranks and genuinely require one.
